LOCATION: Lessons are held within the private glass studio of Starleen located in Southern New Jersey. We are 25 minutes from Philadelphia, 10 minutes from Turnersville/Glassboro, 45 minutes from Deleware Memorial Bridge, & 2 hours from Edison / Patterson North Jersey area. The complete studio address along with door-to-door driving directions are ONLY provided inside of your enrollment packet to students remitting payment. WHY? The studio is not a storefront. It is Starleens private studio OPEN TO THE PUBLIC FOR A LIMITED TIME IN NJ.

PRIVATE LESSONS? : Rest assured that your workshop will be an intimate study of the molten dance at your own torch. Your lesson will never have more than 2 - 3 students at any given time to preserve the high quality experience Starleen is known for. Lessons in the private glass studio are about a quality experiance. No competing for the instructor’s time. No learning from a demonstration, then left to figure it out on your own in a group setting. Individualized attention can be what makes or breaks a students success.
NO HIDDEN WORKSHOP FEES: The price of each 2 day workshop below is the cost of the course. That is it! No glass / raw material / tool or kiln usage hidden fees are tacked on. ALSO, there is no charge for hour overage if Starleen takes the class beyond the standard five hour timeframe. At times, a wrap up may take an extra fifteen to twenty minutes, and your lesson is not compromised by the ticking clock on the wall. Shipping of your beads upon completion of the workshop is also free.
Who is accepted into your workshops? : NO EXPERIANCE WITH GLASS IS REQUIRED for intro courses! Anyone who is above the age of 18 and is passionate about understanding the molten dance at the torch. Younger students are accepted on a case by case basis. Students with over 15 years of experience have also studied with us. All are welcome to attend workshops. Technique is taught freely to all.

Your torch success and studio safety is taken very seriously by Starleen. Thoroughly prepared lesson plans are in place for each workshop. Her desire to see you succeed surpasses your desire to learn! Our comprehensive workshops exceed student expectations by sharing as much knowledge as possible within your study. Not a minute of your time goes to waste. Lesson plans are also adaptable! The quick learner is provided opportunity to cover a greater deal of ground in a short period of time. The learn at your own pace student has the option of picking and choosing which torch techniques to omit as time becomes a factor.
Starleen's Instructor Qualifications : Serving as a corporate systems trainer to groups of 1 - 200 individuals at any given time has left Starleen equipped to understand how to provide quality yet adaptable instruction to a diverse group of learners and personality types. Specializing in highly developed procedures for corporations worldwide has left her equipped to produce comprehensive lesson plans which answer all your questions + the ones you did not think of.
Private courses have been provided in the studio since 2006 leaving hundreds of new lampworkers ready to embark on their own goals and dreams, built on a rock solid foundation of knowledge.
Identifying then overcoming individual’s difficulties or mental blocks has always been my specialty! Lampwork artists with over 11 years of torch experience have booked courses, believing their situation was next to hopeless for topics such as encasement. Quickly to change their mind after a few short hours of examination of exactly what actions need to be adjusted while behind the torch. All leave the studio empowered.... understanding what goes wrong through an exact system of study. Not arrogant... just confidence built upon seeing student after student succeed and excited about their artistic goals and vision. This is why I teach!
Do you discount courses ? : No. Rather than increase the cost of basic courses to compensate for the increase studio costs, all sales, email promotions, & trade show discounts have been discontinued.
You can find a cheaper course out there, but you will get what you pay for.

Studio Set Up :
We offer professional set up that is not only a functional dream, but an artistic feast for the eyes. Four outstanding torch stations are in place, fully equipped with individual tool kits & two grades of eye protection. Torches utilized during our courses are: NM Knight , HellCat, MiniCC , & Japanese torches. We stock over 1,000 pounds of glass in every coe manufactured. Our large 24x24x24 interior dimension custom kiln with digital controller ensures that there is plenty of room for all student projects. No cramming everyone's work into a tiny cheap kiln with fiber blanket lining that sticks to your work. NO BATCH annealing that compromises structural soundness of glass pieces. Superb ventilation units of 1800 adjustable CFM are hooked up to each torch station individually to ensure your experience is not only exciting, but SAFE! Beautiful ceramic tile work surfaces, adjustable chairs on wheels ensure your comfort while at the torch.

Do you still customize courses ? : At times a student is inbetween my description of intro and intermediate. I can combine the two in such cases. Students that can light an oxygen/propane torch, can always nail a round bead, can pull thin vs fat stringer and understand what actions are required to do each type, have an indepth understanding of studio set up / safety, different annealing cycles, understanding of equipment, and place dots on a bead with ease, YOU should not sit through redundant topics. What's the point in that... I offer for this type of student a three day workshop consisting of some intro topics and the entire intermediate. This is the only custom course option offered. Can I schedule courses back to back? : Yes. Maximum session is up to 5 days.
Can you provide me with some floral technique instruction ? : Yes, within the intro course & intermediate module you will learn how to make a single layered encased BASIC flower. ALL OTHER FLORAL TECHNIQUES ARE AVAILABLE WITHIN THE COMPLEX FLORAL CONSTRUCTION WORKSHOP. Check the workshop page for availability.
Do you offer online Tutorials for sale ? : No. There are no plans to create and sell tutorials. However Starleen does offer some FREE online tutorials. Click on the tutorial link at the top of this page and enjoy them!
TRANSPORTATION AID FOR INTERNATIONAL / OUT OF STATE STUDENTS:
We make your visit to the studio stress free & EASY! Airport to hotel shuttle services will take care of your transportation from the Philadelphia International Airport to one of our recommended hotels. I have used this service personally for over 10 years myself, and consider it to be reliable and prompt. Once you are in your hotel, studio apprentices or starleen will take care of your daily pickup/drop for a flat fee of $10.00 per day. STEP BY STEP INSTRUCTIONS ON HOW TO OBTAIN SHUTTLE SERVICES ARE INCLUDED IN YOUR ENROLLMENT KIT. INTERNATIONAL STUDENTS FROM AFRICA, INDIA, ISREAL, AUSTRALIA, NEW ZEALAND, GERMANY, UK, CANADA... ALONG WITH OUT OF STATE STUDENTS HAVE ALL USED THIS SERVICE PROBLEM FREE SINCE 2006.
